Mother's Musings: Art Lessons

"It is better to have no art teacher than the wrong art teacher! For the wrong art teacher can destroy the potential giftedness of any person and the right teacher can help make a genius of a 'nobody'. But more important that artistic 'outcomes' is the importance of how the soul feels when doing art, only a good teacher can make the soul sing for joy as learner does art. Let us not forget too that practice and experiments are art 'teachers' too"

At last some new work by Emma

I am so ashamed that it has taken me so long to photograph Emma's work and upload it. This is just a random choice out of her piles and piles of work! It is not necessarily her best, rather it is just what she enjoyed doing the most. Her work improves consistently and steadily. She sees things in her head to draw/paint all the time and can sit anywhere as in a busy waiting room with her work on her knee and produce something of worth in a 10 minute wait. Last week we saw two Doctors and both were amazed and encouraged her to keep up her art! I love watching this little girl blossom as she draws and paints her way through life...

I met a new Australian artist

Last week we went to Mount Taborine and met Anita Rowney. The most intereting thing was the way she created a washed look with her paints, I think she does this with acrylcs too. Usually you do this with watercolours. I ma using acrylics fo rmy horses. I bouhgt a new pant brush and a new green and yellow paint that I need for the grass in my horse painting. It is a fan shaped brush, and I have never had one of these before. One day I would like to have a whole room full of paintings to sell just like Anita Rowney.

It is so long since I have put any of Emma's art up, to my shame, as she never stops drawing and painting and is developing her artistic skill as each week goes by! I just cannot keep up. Her most recent endeavour is her first canvas. Here are some shots of her working on it.  She is copying a difficult photograph and is trying to do shading too. Emma has never had any painting lessons before. She does her own mixing and blending etc ....by instinct. It is still a work in progress, I will try and put up the finished work asap when all is done!
